The romance between violet- the seer, and Cyrus- the prince was also great and I loved how they hated each other and still had casual endeavours with one another.īut what wasn’t too amazing for me was how fast the plot progressed towards the end. It surprised me at times too, which was great because I hate predictable plots LOL. ![]() It was very well thought out from the beginning till almost the end of the book. One of the things that really pleased me was the plot. I’m definitely excited to see where book two leads us to. The setting was perfect, it was heavily inspired by a fairytale setting- which I loved of course! There were forests, magical trees and GAHHHH, it was just amazing. And it is safe to say I’m a simp for Violet Lune. ![]() ![]() I need more books with not-perfect main characters- the ones who aren’t a perfect balance, but the ones who have too much of something and too little of another. she is sharp-tongued, unapologetic, very prideful, and somewhat selfish. A budget-saving decision leads to him learning of Innsmouth, a small, run-down town in Maine that neighboring townies steer clear of. Granted, the narrator is the one who called for the investigation in the first place, taking a trip to his New England family roots as a coming-of-age celebration. Told years after the incident occurred, this first person recount sheds some light on events seemingly covered up by the powers that be. Possibly inspired by his allergy to seafood, The Shadow Over Innsmouth shows how a town’s greed and/or quest for riches can lead to a deal with an underwater devil, which then leads to an interspecies marriage and an ancestor learning too much about his past. Finishing a story meant to terrify probably wasn’t the best idea. It was dark, the pool was empty and secluded, and the place reeked of not waking up in the morning due to something the guy who wrote Saw would have thought of. I finished reading this story while spending the night at a run-down inn in the mountains of New Hampshire. 2023 Bartending Awards are now accepting nominations. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As the summer goes on, though, and Holland’s pranks become increasingly sinister, Niles finds he can no longer make excuses for his brother’s actions. Before World War II began, Jessie Drumm and her friends at Alveara boarding school in Belfast liked their German teacher, Miss Muller. It certainly illustrates the discrimination that people face when they are in a foreign country especially during wartime when everyone is suspicious of people that are different from them. This would be a great book to integrate social studies and history lessons with for students in upper elementary and older. Personal Response: I enjoyed the story and found I was engaged the whole way through. Hoping to prove her favorite teachers innocence, Jessie agrees to help spy on her. But after Jessie sees the teacher climbing to the roof at night, she and the others wonder if Miss Muller is a secret agent, signaling the enemy. Miss Muller is a popular teacher before the war, but because she is half German and it's wartime, students at the school harass her and grow suspicious of her every move.
